My friend has just received a Court Order against him because he owes lots and lots of money to someone. However, he hasn’t actually signed a contract. Does he have a legal leg to stand on? Any advice would be welcome, cheers.

If you owe money you make a verbal contract to return it so he has a problem.
A verbal contract is as binding as a written one
He should find some way of repaying the loan

White House staffers who dealt with with Jack Abramoff and the U.S. Attorney firings sent e-mails from outside addresses linked to the Republican National Committee (RNC) to circumvent the mandatory record-keeping system. If they do they’re in big trouble for willful violation of the open records act… There is no reason to use secret email addresses besides hiding things from the public.

There is a blog (online) and these ppl are talking about someones personal life and family. Just completely destroying their reputation and character, what kind of lawyer would we need to speak to??

Call your local bar association, and they can recommend someone for you.

here’s some examples of breaking the law
tossing trash on the street :cigattes butts soda cans etc
drinking under age
smoking under age
dui
not graduating from high school
parking on the disablle people spaces
skiping classes
not having auto inssurance
etc
speeding
having sex with an under age person even though you are underage still a crime

I’ve passed every background check given me and I wouldn’t have the job I have if I did break the law.

Following up on a previous question on here: Response: "A paralegal can not give legal advice." …A paralegal can prepare documents, and advise about laws, but cannot give legal advice.

Can you help me discern, in generalized terms, what is and what is not legal advice? For instance, a personal case could be presented to a paralegal, and he/she could do/say X but not do/say Y.

If it is a simple spelled out misdemeanor charge, would it even be worth hiring such an individual to help with this case?

Legal advice means interpreting the law, or applying the law to a given set of facts.

So, for example, say the law read: "It is a misdemeanor to be caught in culpable possession of a narcotic". The paralegal could quote the statute, but couldn’t define "culpable possession" for you. The paralegal could also not analyze your particular facts and tell you whether the statute applied in your case. The paralegal also cannot tell you which court cases might help you, even though they could every court case that discussed that statute.

Another example. A paralegal could help you fill out a court form, but only by entering exactly what you tell them to enter. They cannot suggest what you should say, and cannot even advise you whether the form is appropriate in your case.

Doing either of those — interpreting or applying the law — counts as the unauthorized practice of law.

According to Federal Election Commission filings, Barack Obama has received illegal donations from Palestinians living in Gaza, a hotbed of Hamas terrorists.

Obama received more than $24,000 in campaign contributions over a period of two months last fall from three Palestinian brothers from the "Edwan" family in Rafah, Gaza, which is a Hamas stronghold along the border with Egypt. The story was uncovered by Pamela Geller of the Atlas Shrugs blog. (see Federal Election Commission report)

Attorney and conservative commentator Debbie Schlussel notes foreign nationals are barred from making contributions in connection with any election — federal, state, or local — and an individual is allowed to give only $2,300 per election to a federal candidate or the candidate’s campaign committee.

"The donations are basically through and through illegal — that’s number one. And number two is how the Obama campaign tried to conceal it," Schlussel chides. "They listed the campaign contributions as coming from Rafah, Georgia. They used the ‘GA’ from Gaza so it makes it look like it’s legal; and then for the zip code it says ‘972,’ which is actually the area code to dial over to Gaza," she contends.

The attorney comments that if the Obama campaign is willing to "accept thousands of dollars beyond the legal limit and they’re also going to flout [Federal Election Commission] restrictions…that’s very indicative of what kind of president [Obama] is going to be."

"They’re not going to be worried about the details and they won’t mind if they break the law to get to the final result that they want," adds Schlussel. She believes it is a "major news story when a presidential candidate receives money from ‘a bastion of Islamic terrorism.’ And Schlussel argues that the media is "bending over backwards to help Barack Obama and cover up any negative news about him."

Schlussel says Pamela Geller will likely file a Federal Election Commission complaint against the Obama campaign for violating restrictions and limits on campaign contributions

so i posted a picture on hi5 and someone put it on its blog.is that legal? can i stop the picture from being posted? the picture was posted on a friends account and now is deleted.is it legal to do so? please help

It’s called intellectual property. If you took the picture then you own the intellectual property rights to it.

You can find a generic ‘cease and desist’ letter online and change it to your own words then e-mail it to them.

I recently started a blog with lists of top 3 albums, movies, etc, and i’d like to put a picture with each item, but I don’t want to violate any copyright laws. Is there some way I can do this? I see lots of blogs with pics of movie characters/posters.

Just include a small link to the source of where the picture is from below the image and you should be more than ok. The internet is based on exchange of information and as long as you are crediting the source of the information, not claiming it as your own, you should be covered.

The places where you would run into trouble with copyrighted images would be like printing T-shirts with a copyrighted image you found on the internet and selling them.

To answer the question of ‘what acts and statutes’ are not regarded as law, the answer is none of them. To what Laws do you have to give authority to? Your own. Figure out what they are, then live by them (and serve notice, if you care to change anything for the others that are still slaves to the system…and the future)
